The holiday season has come and gone, and we wanted to share a tour of our house decorated for Christmas. We made great memories and loved decorating our 120-year-old home for 4 short (yet long) weeks. Decorating is so easy in this house, anything we bring in just adds to the timeless charm of our home. Its rich history and architectural details provides the perfect canvas for our favorite seasonal decor.
We had 3 trees this year! I found a new skinny faux tree for our entryway at Home Depot, and a larger faux tree for our bedroom. Totally unnecessary, but we have the space and a fireplace, so it just felt right.
For our entryway tree, I decided to collect vintage ornaments. This was a last minute December project, but I managed to fill the tree with an assortment of glass ornaments from Facebook Marketplace. I will continue to collect throughout the year so that next year it will be even more decorated. On this faux tree, I added small twinkle lights on top of the white lights that are built into the tree. Then put the ornaments, followed by gold bead garland, gold tinsel garland, and silver tinsel threads. It was my favorite decoration this season and can’t wait to put it up again next year. The 3rd bedroom faux tree we left only with the white lights that came with it.
One of the best parts of decorating our 120-year-old home is discovering hidden nooks and crannies to add more unique holiday decorations to. We use mainly faux garland these days. It makes decorating much simpler for our family, and less stressful. We love the fact that we can pull everything out from the previous year and to have to purchase more. Aside from the two new faux trees & ornaments, everything we decorated with this season was from our bins in the basement. (We use these for most ornaments, and large plastic bins for the rest of our decor!
Our bar is another fun spot to decorate. I have Spode whiskey glasses, nutcrackers, holiday bottle openers and bottle stoppers that I put out on display. I add twinkle lights behind the bottles to add some glimmer. Home Goods is where I pick up small holiday napkins every year to also display.
As the holiday season unfolded, our 120-year-old home became a gathering place for friends and family. We loved being in our home, making a fire, and hosting friends & family. We are so grateful to live here in this house.
